The other day I opened an email from a friend in the lower 48. It said; “-28, wow!” I had no idea what he was trying to tell me. Turns out, he had looked up the current temperature in Barrow.

Snow joke. I suppose you have to make light of the cold conditions and enjoy yourselves. With all the fresh snow it is easy to start again if you don’t like it the first time.

I suppose if graffiti artists used paint up there it would be covered by snow and ice for a lot of the year so they improvise 🙂 It means they regularly have a new canvas to work on too?
Yup. But it’s elsewhere in Barrow, too. Just like anyplace where people might congregate. Kids are kids.

Priceless – it gets to -28 here regularly in the winter also but I must admit I’ve never seen any snow graffiti!

love it, love it… I remember once taking a picture of words finger-written on a dusty truck — all fine, except they were in Inuktitut. This was before the digital era, so I was back south before I had the image. I sent copies to friends but never did get the translation. Perhaps just the usual “wash me” — I’ve already recommended your blog on mine, and I’ll do so again
I was under the impression that there wasn’t a lot of sun during the winter months, but I see a beautiful sunshiny, blue sky day. Of course it is COLD! Glad to see it isn’t dark, too.

Hi Dan Wall. Re: the “frost forms like this… no pun intended”, I think it was intended. Very cool shot, and yes, pun intended. You’re quite a sick pup, but love your site, the smart-xxx remarks, great stories, photos (of course), and so what if the video is shakey. Most of us will never ever see the likes of what you have in your backyard. And I hope you just visited Denver and not living there now. Go back to the light!!
Temporary art – makes it all a little more precious when you know it’ll either get covered with the next snow fall or melt if the temp rises.
