This summer, I drove all the way from Anchorage to Houston.
It took about an hour.

I missed the main residential district, but I did stop to enjoy an apple pie in a lovely restaurant by a beautiful pond. Anyway, this is my second Houston. I think I like it.
…or at least its pies and its ponds.
- Restaurant
- Good Pie!
- A close-up of the pond.
- Were it not for rain, I could have eaten by the pond.
- A monument to the state bird.
- I missed all of these events!
- Fire Dept
I like that unofficial state bird sculpture in spite of learning firsthand in Alaska about its ferocity.
We are fortunate here in Barrow. They rarely seem to live longer than a week or two before a frost kills them all off. 🙂
Oh I see now….it’s the Houston State Bird…..OK…..now we’re making sense….question?…..How’d you do it in an hour?
Heh, …this particular Houston is about an hour North of Wassila.
And you didn’t have to endure the intense heat of Houston, TX or see one of the worst baseball teams in the MLB. Smart move, all around, Daniel!
Heh, I remember the heat of Houston TX. It was one of the reasons I chose to come here. As to baseball, I never see baseball. If it’s on TV, I see a blue screen. If people are talking about it, I hear the equivalent of one of the adults in a Peanuts cartoon. …I know, I’m a bad man.
During the only resort-style vacation I ever took, my friend and I spent a lot of time with this guy from Alaska who regaled us with stories of mosquitoes. It was funny after enough tequila.
Such stories are always funnier in the telling than they are in the living. ..ouch!
With a little planning you could assure yourself participation in next year’s Adult Egg Toss (free!). Cake walk, confetti walk, what are they? Might need to miss, take part in the barbecue with free food instead?
I like how anyone can call the mayor directly to inquire about the parade–small town.
Heh, I may have to try and get down there for those. 😉
Great use of a post-hole digger and I had no idea that we’re neighbors. Ha!
