Last June I used to walk down by the beach nearly every day. It was fascinating to see the ocean slowly turning back into liquid. Since I’m in Vegas at the moment, I can only imagine what’s happening now.
…or live vicariously through last year’s photos.
But first some happy music!
Now, if you click on the pics, they will embiggen!
- Actually this is July of 2010

Now, since I am also missing the Nalukataq, the Spring Whaling Festival later this month, A Quick Video!
I know. Fire the cameraman!
Anyway, that is Barrow, AK, at this time of year.
Great pics, Alaska is top on my bucket list, I gotta visit ASAP. Sad part is that if the Mayans were right I’m running out of time.
Heh, …no, if some folks blatant misrepresentations of the Mayans were right, then you’re running out of time, but they aren’t.
But you should go. Southern Alaska is particularly beautiful.
Great photos. As fine as they are, I imagine the scale and immensity of these places can’t be captured in a picture. Having just been at the Devil’s Tower, the Black Hills, Rushmore, and the Badlands, I was reminded of how “being there” makes all the difference.
It does, but just a slight twist. I actually find the skies seem more impressive in the pictures, or at least my attention is drawn to them more. I don’t know why. When I take a picture, I seem t be focused on something else. When I look at the picture later, I find the sky catches my attention more than what I was initially looking at. That said, the clouds do seem to sit low over Barrow, very low.
Fantastic pictures! And nice to see something that cold. Helps – mentally – down here in southern TX.
Enjoy the weekend,
Pit
Hopefully, my pictures have helped you through the heat. …I’ve been in Vegas myself, and I’m eager to return to the chill.
Never been to Vegas. But I can imagine the Strip and this nature being pretty strong contrasts :).
Heh, …course their both deserts.
But the one is actually hot.
Beautiful photos.
Thank you.
That must have been incredible to photograph! Keep it up
I’m heading back soon, and I have a camera now instead of just a phone. 🙂
Great post! I nominated your blog for the Versatile Blogger Award– More info can be found here– http://fictionalmachines.wordpress.com/2012/06/11/the-versatile-blogger-award-nomination/
You are very kind.
These shots are startling and wonderful. I LOVE the “coffee table size” second shot. Fantastic. Thanks for the music too. Fun!
Someone finally noticed Asaagi! I love that tune. Makes you want to dance around and drum on pots and pans.
Lucky you to have such a beautiful sight close to home.
I suppose so, though I may have to remind myself of that come January. 🙂
Hi, I love this post for the photos of Alaska but even more so for the word ’embiggen’ – I’ll have to borrow that technical term please…lol
Please do, I am doing my best to pass along this wonderful new word. 🙂
Wonderful photos of a place in the world I’ve not seen in person…thanks for sharing …and for the ‘like”.
Absolutely!
Beautiful shots! Thanks for stopping by Keeping Up With Carol! I agree with many of your new fans – I love your sense of humor and will follow you too!
Thank you Carol. Keep up the good work on your own blog.
Beautiful and refreshing after a week of 100+ degree weather in Texas! Loved that second pic. And the music did sound happy. Thanks!
I’m glad someone noticed the music. It’s Hey Jude done in a Bantu language.
So not Barrow-in-Furness then? I was confused for a while. Like the photos but skipped the video. Whaling does not do it for me…
Ha, no, not that Barrow. For what it’s worth, there are no dead whales in the video, just a blanket toss.
I especially enjoyed your photos as it’s currently over 90 degrees where I am now! Cooled me off just to see them. Thanks. 🙂
I suppose I should start a cold-photo service for those living in hot places, ha! Well, I was thinking about the heat myself when I went digging through the pics.
Cool pics! Also, thanks for stopping by and “liking” one of my posts! stay frosty!
Thanks for stopping by my own neck of the net.
Now THAT is a beautiful break up.
